Emotional Diet of Jesus

Emotions is a weird but everyday aspect of our daily life. People feel good on some days, some says bad. Most of us think emotions are something that is out our hands. It is something we can’t control.

Another point of view is you can be cold and emotionless . caring and Sensitive. What we see in bible is completely different perspective.

Let’s read through John 11

We read the resurrection of Lazarus

As Jesus went back to the city where the Jews tried to stone him to death

The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?”

It is interesting when Jesus is informed Lazarus is sick, Jesus says these words…

Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”

When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

We see that Jesus is quite confident of bringing Lazarus from the dead

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

As we Jesus died for us not only to save us from our sins but death to. In short we have everlasting life through Jesus Christ.

33 Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. 34 And He said, “Where have you laid him?”

They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”

35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”

37 And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”

Jesus ends up raising Lazarus from the dead, as you have noticed Jesus wept. God never intended man to die, remember there were two trees. The tree of life and knowledge of good and evil.
God wanted Man and Woman to eat the tree of life.

Jesus wept , because he was upset at the notion of mans death and his separation from God.

He was sensitive emotionally and vulnerable.

But more less emotional side of Jesus, we see him before the
crucifixion. He talks about his death in John 14

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions;[a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.[b] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

He tells his disciples let not your Heart be troubled. Remember guys he is telling his disciples he is going to be die. Remember Jesus is going to face a horrible death. Instead of panicking himself. He is commanding his disciples not to let their hearts be troubled.

If Jesus suffers and dies. Then their disciples would be the Romans next target. He’s not only not being emotional about his death, he commanding his disciples not to fear.

Just like Jesus we can choose to indulge our emotions about which we care about. Not let our hearts be troubled by bad times . We being Christians indulge in emotions regarding our everlasting life on heaven. And we can be emotionalyl indifferent to hard times using the promises of word of God.

Deuteronomy  31:6

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
